What a wonderful event to learn about Monarchs, Milkweed and More 2023. A big thank you to Melissa of Penguin Court Brandywine Conservancy and Kristin at Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art - Ligonier Valley for collaborating to create a wonderful educational event as part of Westmoreland Counties 250th Anniversary. Congratulations to all who became a Monarch Waystation as part of the initiative for the Westmorenand 250th that exceeded their goal and created 273 Monarch Waystations in the county!
Thank you for the great displays from Westmoreland Pollinator Partners , Powdermill Nature Reserve, Westmoreland Land Trust, Penn State Master Gardeners of Weatmoreland County, Master Naturalists of Westmoreland, and the plein air artists who shared their talents. It was a beautiful day to tag and release butterflies and learn about these fabulous creatures and how to preserve and help their habitats. Congratulations also to the talented photographers who won or participated in the Pollinator Photography Contest.

🎼Westmoreland County, PA has an official song! The Scottdale Concert Band performed the "Westmoreland" march by Roy Mitchell and it will become the official song for Westmoreland County at the Re-opening of the Courthouse Courtyard. Thank you Scottdale Concert Band for the beautiful signed copy of the music and for performing at this memorable event!
Westmoreland County, PA citizens and officials joined together for the Re-Opening of the Courthouse Courtyard! The Courtyard design recognizes the 250th Anniversary of Westmoreland County with the gorgeous mosaic of the County flag and looks to the future with contemporary elements. The Scottdale Concert Band performed the "Westmoreland" march, and it became the official song of the county. A big thank you to everyone who attended and worked hard to make it a safe and memorable event.

Libraries are our happy place! DIscover Westmoreland got to visit 2 beautiful libraries last week with Pam Curtin, author of the children's book "GO, Discover! Westmoreland." Thank you to Heidi at New Alexandria Public Library and Jessica at Greensburg Hempfield Area Library and Heidi for the hospitality. Only 250 bottles of the limited-edition run will be available for sale! The special outdoor evening whiskey tasting event includes a signature whiskey cocktail, spirits, light bites and musical entertainment in the Lower Fort. This is the first time West Overton Distilling Company will produce white rye whiskey for another entity. The limited run will be the first batch made entirely with rye grown at @westoverton since the 1800s.

Come down today (7/13) to the Westmoreland County Human Services Fair presented by Westmoreland County Department of Human Services, 211, and the United Way.
The event is at the Westmoreland County Community College Campus until 2:00 pm today.
Resources include Food Bank and representatives from the Area Agency on Aging, Behavioral Health, and Development, Children's Bureau, Department of Community Relations and Prevention, and Veterans Affairs.
Activities include DJ, Balloon Artist, Caricaturist, Children's Corner, and more!

WOW! Did we have a fantastic time at the Freeport Theatre Festival’s opening night of “Spirit of the Revolution.” It is a fantastic way to celebrate Westmoreland County’s 250th Anniversary. The original play was written and directed by Rennick Steele and his phenomenal wife Marushka runs tech.
The actors put their all into telling the story of a Westmoreland County farmer who fights passionately in General Washington’s Continental Army. Arrive at 6:30 to enjoy colonial music and visit with people from Westmoreland County history groups. It was a pleasure to meet the Allegheny Township Historical Society last night. This is community + theater + history at its best. Go see it before the run ends on 7/23.
